Signs

One funny part in the movie signs was the part when Mel Gibson walks into the kids' room and they are in there sitting on the bed with the aluminum foil helmets. Morgan says they are wearing them so that the aliens can't read their minds. I thought it was silly at first but then I remembered something I learned in AP Physics B last year. That idea does have some merit to it, even though what the kids were doing wouldn't have exactly worked. The problem is that the aluminum foil didnt entirely enclose they're brain. If you've ever seen a spy movie, their suitcases are usually made out of a magnetic metal if their is any electronic information inside. That is because if it is totally enclosed there is no magnetic field inside, making it impossible for the information inside to be picked up or intercepted. So if I remember last years lessons correctly: if aliens from the movie signs are trying to to electronically read your mind you can stop them by totally enclosing yourself in a magnetic metal?

The Seventh Seal

I was absent the first day that the class watched the Seventh Seal. There was one part of the movie in which I don't remember much happening, and which I thought the movie could have been just as good without. It was the scene where the men are rolling the cart through the river and to the execution site. Can anyone tell me if im missing something?

Raging Bull

I recently watched Raging Bull. I thought the movie was awesome. It gave me that suspension of disbelief where I felt as if i were actually watching the events taking placing instead of consciously being aware that i was watching a television screen. The fight scenes weren't particularly great, especially the way the blood came squirting out; it was weird. The acting was great, expecially in the scene where Jake is asking his brother if he had sex with his wife. They both had the exact same reactions that real people would. Anyway, I enjoyed the movie and I think Mr. Bennett should give it another chance.

Midnight Cowboy

There were a few scenes from the movie that either bothered me or I found really weird. The first one was when Joe is in the diner sitting across from who you can assume are a mother and her kid. They are rubbing a fake mouse all over each other's faces and hair. I remember thinking as I was watching, "What the hell is going on?" Another part that annoyed me was that even though Ratso and Joe were as good as friends as any two people could be, Joe wouldn't stop calling him Ratso even though he knew Ratso loathed it. He continued to call him Ratso, instead of Rico, for the rest of the movie. The last thing is how nonchalantly everyone on the bus takes Ratso's death. They never checked his pulse to see if he was just unconscious, and nobody called the ambulance. Nobody else besides the busdriver even said a word. They just looked back for a minute while the bus was stopped.

Favorite Movie

My favorite movie I have ever seen is by far "Bloodsport." It is about a secret karate tournament called the Kumite. The idea of this movie even existing is ironic, because it is the true story of a secret event so you have to take the writer's word for it. Either way, fiction or non-fiction, it is extremely entertaining. Jean-Claude Van Damme plays the main character, Frank Dux. The fight scenes are what really make the movie. Sometimes, during these scenes, the actors look like the director told them that Bloodsport was going to be a silent film. I really can't tell if they were trying to do it on purpose or not, but some of the facial expressions and falls taken by defeated fighters are almost funny. You want to laugh and sometimes you do. Those images are my favorite part of the movie and the reason why I think the movie has somewhat of a cult following. Besides dealing with the fights and his rival Chong Li, Dux also has to avoid a young Forest Whitaker, who plays a United States cop trying to catch Dux and bring him home before he gets into too much trouble. I don't know of many people who have seen this movie but the few I know who have all love it. So I recommend it to everyone and especially anyone who likes karate or kung fu movies.
